On Monday, 23 May 2022, an 18-year-old teenager died after falling from a height at Clementi. The teen was found dead on a sheltered walkway behind The Clementi Mall that afternoon.
The Singapore Police Force told 8world that it alerted to a case of unnatural death at about 4:16pm on 23 May, at 441B Clementi Avenue 3. An SCDF paramedic subsequently pronounced the teen dead at the scene.
441B Clementi Avenue 3 is an HDB apartment block located adjacent to The Clementi Mall and a variety of other establishments and amenities in the Clementi Central area. A short walking distance away from the Clementi MRT station, footfall in the area is generally quite high. It is unclear whether anyone witnessed the incident.
Videos of Police Tent Circulating on Social Media
Videos of the police at the scene have been circulating on social media. A clip uploaded on TikTok by user @dtvictory has garnered over 1.8 million views as of this writing. It shows a blue police tent set up on the sheltered walkway above the lift lobby of the building and a KOI outlet, while onlookers surrounded the area.
In a follow-up video, the same user showed the crowd getting bigger as the police officers continued their preliminary investigations.
Investigations into this case are ongoing, and details have yet to be revealed. Members of the public should refrain from speculating over what had happened, and give the bereaved family time and privacy to mourn their loss.
