LG’s latest invention is set to redefine home entertainment entirely. Unveiled at the CES 2022, the LG StandbyME TV aims to give you more screen time, so you don’t have to worry about missing parts of your favourite k drama when you need to grab a drink from the kitchen. The 27-inch display is mounted on a moveable stand with concealed wheels that lets you bring this TV wherever you go. Although, the device isn’t waterproof so if you’re thinking of bringing it with you to the bathroom, you might want to think twice before doing it. The LG StandbyME TV just makes perfect sense, especially since our phones already follow us around everywhere we go.
Unpacking the LG StandbyME TV

The 27-inch TV offers a decent viewing experience. However, one gripe about the TV is that it doesn’t offer the same immersive experience as a regular 4K TV, but that’s largely because LG currently does not make 27-inch OLED panels. However, the TV does come with decent sound, despite its small frame. It has a 10-watt sound system offering 2.0 channels that is able to blast full and engaging sound effects to elevate your viewing experience.
The LG StandbyME TV can be operated wirelessly as it comes with a built-in battery that promises three hours of usage, or roughly the length of one movie. But you can also connect it to the power outlet if you’re not planning to move it anywhere at the moment. The cleverly designed stand hides the cables connecting the screen to the base, where the battery is packed. The base also has five wheels that make rolling the screen anywhere and everywhere an easy feat. It’s so easy that even children can do it with ease.

The screen also swivels, rotates, and tilts to better suit your gaze when you’re in bed watching Netflix, or following a YouTube cooking tutorial in the kitchen. It can rotate up to 180°, swivel 130°, tilt 50°, and is height adjustable up to 20cm. The screen can also be adjusted to portrait and landscape modes easily which makes it easier to follow cooking recipes in the kitchen, and then enjoy a TV dinner at the dining table after cooking.
The LG StandbyME also comes with a touch-screen interface that supports your favourite streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. This makes it easy to keep the kids entertained and keep yourself entertained when the kids are asleep. As if things couldn’t get any better, these streaming apps come built-in which means you’ll have content always at your fingertips.
Anyone who uses the TV to stream Netflix will understand the struggle of fumbling with the remote trying to hit the next episode button. The biggest headache is when the remote vanishes and you need it to select ‘next episode’ on Netflix, but with touchscreen-enabled, you no longer have to worry about having remote troubles.

Even though the LG StandbyME TV is meant as a portable home entertainment device, the screen still comes with an HDMI port that is neatly built-in at the back. This means that you can also use this device as an extended display when working from home. You will also get a Web browser that will come in handy for surfing the web. The LG webOS software interface should be a familiar sight among LG users, and it is also easy to navigate and manoeuvre around. There’s also a USB port for you to hook up an external drive for work or to stream your movies. You can even hook up your gaming devices too!
Price and availability
The LG StandbyME is now available for S$1,799 from LG’s official stores as well as on shopping platforms like KrisShop, Lazada and Shopee. You can also find the TV at Best Denki, Courts, Gain City and Harvey Norman.
Final Thoughts

The LG StandbyME TV does sound pretty unconventional and weird at first. But if you think about it, the concept of the LG StandbyME TV is pretty much similar to what we are already doing with our mobile phones and tablets. The only difference is that the screen is much bigger. There’s actually a lot of functionality behind the LG StandbyME TV and we reckon you wouldn’t find it hard to integrate this device into your everyday life. In fact, we think it will be a much better aid to elevate your productivity.
In Singapore where homes are small and the use of space is very important, the LG StandbyME TV is probably one of the best devices to have in your home because you can bring it with you everywhere you go. It can accompany you while you entertain guests by the dinner table and even serve as your sou chef while you slave over the stove figuring out this new recipe you found online. You can even wheel it into the bedroom to watch some Netflix on the bed without having to prop or hold the device up, and when morning comes, simply wheel it back out into the living room again. It’s really that simple and functional. Although just a friendly reminder that the device is not waterproof, so you might not want to bring it with you to the bathroom.
