As we inch towards the post-pandemic world, various exciting attractions are set to open in Singapore. One of them is Minion Land, a new attraction at Universal Studios Singapore. On 26 May 2022, Minion Land broke ground at a ceremony graced by Minister of State for Trade & Industry, and Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Alvin Tan.
Minion Land

Minion Land will officially open to the public in 2024. The attraction will feature various rides, themed shops, and restaurants. Of the rides, one of the rides would be the world’s first original ride that’s exclusive to Universal Studios Singapore.
Another ride that will be built in the Minion Land zone is the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. It is an immersive motion-simulator 3D ride where guests join Gru’s family for an unpredictable and electrifying experience as they are transformed into Minions. This ride is also available at Universal Studios’ locations in Florida, Hollywood, Japan, and Beijing.
Expect Minion-themed treats and Minion-themed souvenirs in the shops and restaurants.
Sustainability

Universal Studios Singapore aims to attain the Zero Energy Building certification from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) when Minion Land opens in 2024. This goal is in line with Singapore’s push for sustainable tourism.
The zone will be powered by renewable energy and utilise smart energy systems. Some examples of smart energy systems include digital twin technology, demand flow controllers and high-efficiency motors.
This transformation also aids in transforming RWS into a more sustainable tourism destination. RWS is the first destination in the world to be conferred green certifications under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Destination and Hotel Industry Criteria.
On the other hand, Universal Studios Singapore is not far behind in their sustainable development. They have achieved the BCA Green Mark Platinum award since 2015.
“Even as we embark on our expansion plans, Resorts World Sentosa stays committed to ensuring that our developments are sustainable and in sync with Singapore’s larger sustainable tourism goals,” said Mr Tan Hee Teck, Chief Executive Officer of Resorts World Sentosa.
RWS 2.0
Minion Land is part of Resorts World Sentosa’s (RWS) expansion plan RWS 2.0. It will help strengthen Universal Studios Singapore’s offerings and is anticipated to be a popular draw for both local visitors and overseas tourists. It will set to lead Singapore’s post-pandemic tourism recovery when it opens.
Mr Alvin Tan, said, “I am very optimistic that with the easing of restrictions and the opening of travel, there will soon be more people coming in to Resorts World Sentosa, to USS, and to Minion Land when it opens in 2024.”
Universal Studios Singapore’s Groovy Summer Extravaganza

While waiting for Minion Land to launch in 2024, Universal Studios Singapore launched a Groovy Summer Extravaganza in celebration of the upcoming release of Illumination’s latest movie, Minions 2: The Rise of Gru.
From now to 14 Aug 2022, guests at Universal Studios Singapore can immerse in Gru’s origin story and soak in the vibrant style of the 70s. This is in line with the animated sequel where it was revealed that Gru met his Minions when he was a boy in the 1970s.
Snap photos at the Groovy Meet-and-Greet with your favourite Minions, Kevin, Stuart, Bob and their newest member, Otto, from Minions 2: The Rise of Gru. They’ll also be dressed in stylish retro threads while grooving to the beat with other dancers on the Lagoon Stage.
The Hollywood Boulevard will also be transformed into a psychedelic photo op that features the colourful vibes of the 70s.
You can also watch a Minion Fu Show at the stairs of the New York Public Library where the Minions will be dressed in their kung fu jumpsuits and break out their karate chops. Guests can meet and greet the Minions there.
Last but not least, take your taste buds back to the 70s at KT’s Grill. Satisfy your hunger with tender Cheeky Chop and quench your thirst with refreshing Yellow Bello Lemonade. For a sweet ending, get their Sweet Mischief Bowl.
